Different Types of Leather
Top-Grain Leather
Most of our products are made of pure top-grain leather.
Top grain leather is the outermost layer of a hide that is prized for its
durability and texture. The outer layer of a hide will usually have natural
markings in the leather that most of our customers have expressed distaste for.
Top-grain leather is the solution to that. To create top-grain leather, the
outer layer of the hide is processed or sanded to get rid of the natural
markings that occur in the outer layer of a hide.
Embossed Leather
Up until recently, crocodile leather was illegal to sell or
buy in the United States. To still meet the demand for such luxurious items, the
leather industry manufactured “embossed crocodile leather.” All of our crocodile
products are made of “embossed leather.” Embossed leather is top grain cowhide
leather that is stamped via heat and pressure. The pattern that results closely
resembles that of crocodile leather. The benefit to you, our customer, is that
you can buy these items, which look like real crocodile leather at only one
tenth of the price.
Full-Grain Leather
Full-grain leather is made up of the outer layer of a hide.
However, unlike top-grain leather, the natural look of the leather is left
untouched and the imperfections remain. This leather is prized for its strength
and durability.
Bonded Leather
When a sheet of our Top Grain leather is too small to
manufacture an item, we use bonded leather to give a smooth and elegant look.
The benefit to using bonded leather is that the normal, natural markings of
leather you would see in most large leather items are not evident.
Bonded leather is created by processing (bonding) scraps of
leather into a single piece of leather.
Split-Grain Leather
Cowhide is made up of an inner and outer layer. Split grain
leather is the inner most layer of a cowhide. We do not use split grain leather
as it is of lesser quality and durability than top-grain and full-grain
leathers.
